Pitt Powers $6.6 Billion Economic
Engine for Commonwealth

Data from an economic impact study completed ahead of its 2025 target shows that the University’s annual economic impact on Pennsylvania has increased 24% since 2021 to $6.6 billion. Pitt also generates $356.2 million in state and local taxes and supports 48,978 jobs.

US News and World Report ranked Pitt

Hot off the press: In the 2025 Best Colleges rankings, Pitt was No. 70 nationally and No. 32 among U.S. publics.

Niche Ranks Pitt #1 in PA

Pitt was No. 25 out of 602 public universities nationwide and No. 1 in Pennsylvania in the 2024 Niche College Rankings.

Key Initiatives Launched

Streamlining Administrative Overhead Through Benchmarking

Pitt is joining an administrative cost benchmarking consortium to compare expenses with peer institutions, expecting data for analysis in FY25, and will establish a baseline for the percentage of the budget allocated to administrative overhead by the end of 2024.

Aligned Framework for Future Campus Development

The assessment and update of the Campus Master Plan (CMP) was launched and will be completed by December 2025, and will ensure alignment with the Plan for Pitt 2028, institutional plans, University priorities and the evolving higher education landscape.

Founding Member of College Presidents for Civic Preparedness

Pitt was one of the founding members of College Presidents for Civic Preparedness, an effort facilitated by the Institute for Citizens & Scholars that has grown to represent more than 70 colleges and universities that are committed to critical inquiry and civil discourse on university campuses.

Year of Discourse and Dialogue Enters Year 2

During the 2023-24 Year of Discourse and Dialogue, 35 projects, programs and initiatives across the University received funding, and more than 40 events were held to foster the understanding, practice and demonstration of discourse and dialogue within the Pitt community.

New Brand Underscores What’s Possible at Pitt

In January, Pitt refreshed the brand and strategic communications platform for the University.
