Phil Bakken serves as vice chancellor and secretary of the Board of Trustees at the University of Pittsburgh. In this role, he advises and supports the board in carrying out its oversight of University affairs and advancing Pitt’s charitable, scientific and educational mission.
Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh in 2024, Bakken spent nearly a decade with the University of Nebraska System, where he served in several leadership roles, including chief of staff to four presidents, corporation secretary to the Board of Regents, and president of the University Technology Development Corporation.
A native of Fremont, Nebraska, Bakken holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and Master of Business Administration from Nebraska Wesleyan University, which recognized him with a Young Alumni Achievement Award in 2022. He is pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration at Pitt.
