In July 2025, the University launched the Office of Institutional Engagement and Wellbeing, which ensures oversight and support in key areas such as civil rights and Title IX compliance, ADA accessibility and accommodations, sexual misconduct prevention education and the monitoring of institutional progress on campus climate and student success.

Pitt was named a 2024-25 Fulbright Top Producer, a distinction for higher education institutions from across the United States with the highest number of candidates selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student and Scholar Programs in a given academic year.

Cathedral of Learning and surrounding neighborhood

The University’s newest Neighborhood Commitment, this one in Greater Hazelwood, is now fully operational.This brings our total number of Neighborhood Commitments—which provide long-term commitments of staffing, infrastructure and coordination to facilitate mutually beneficial collaborations between Pitt and the local community—to four.

During FY24 and FY25, we engaged with more than 400community members and 150 organizations to identify local priorities and build partnerships, including:

  • Biotechnology for Middle Schoolers, out-of-school programs powered by Smithsonian Science Education Center curriculum and EvolvingSTEM, and
  • Life Sciences Bridge Program, funded by The Heinz Endowments, which helps 18-24‑year‑olds prepare for family-sustaining careers in the sector.

Memorandum of Understanding Between Pitt and Israel’s Arava Institute of Environmental Studies

  • The Arava Institute convenes Israeli, Palestinian, Jordanian and international students to protect fragile shared environmental resources, eliminate conflict over these scarce natural resources and serve as a model for constructive peacemaking.

Partnership between Pitt’s School of Medicine and Mozambique’s Gorongosa Restoration Project

  • An initiative supported by the Carr Foundation, the Gorongosa Restoration Project will work with the University to support and enhance health care infrastructure.
