Biography for Introducing the Chancellor at an Event
It is my pleasure to introduce the University of Pittsburgh’s 19th chancellor, Joan Gabel, whose focus is advancing Pitt’s legacy of student success, meaningful research, and commitment to the community.
Prior to joining Pitt, she served as president of the University of Minnesota, provost at the University of South Carolina, and dean of the College of Business at Mizzou.
She serves as the vice chair for the Council on Competitiveness, and on the boards of the American Council on Education, the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities, and Fulbright.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College and a Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia and is the recipient of numerous research, service and teaching awards.
