A Message from Chancellor Gabel

Dear Pitt community,

Earlier today, our Board of Trustees approved operating and capital budgets for Fiscal Year 2027. These balanced budgets reflect the strategic priorities set out in the Plan for Pitt and position the university to advance its mission even as our operating environment continues to evolve.

The Fiscal Year 2027 budget is built on strengths: strong net tuition revenue from growing enrollment, research and discovery elevating people and places, and a capital plan focused on expanding student housing while preserving and maintaining our historic campus. It also reflects that while our financial situation remains solid, we must continue to be proactive in maintaining flexibility, strengthening our financial outlook, and ensuring that we can continue to deliver on our mission, as well as execute on the Plan for Pitt. We also anticipate passage of the state budget, which will affect our appropriation and performance-based funding, and we will share more as those details become clear.

Soon, you will receive messages from Executive Senior Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance and Chief Financial Officer Dwayne Pinkney and from Vice Chancellor for Human Resources James W. Gallaher Jr. Both of those messages will provide more detail about what these budgets mean for you.

I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the Board of Trustees for approving these budgets, and to every member of our Pitt community who has offered ideas, questions and support throughout this process. Your efforts, without question, are our strength and are essential to Pitt's success.

With warm regards,

Joan Gabel
Chancellor
