Pitt Community Update on U.S. Tax Reform Legislation

While we may not often think of the tax code as helping students and families, it plays a vital role in supporting those who invest in themselves and higher education and in increasing accessibility and affordability. The current tax code also limits tax liabilities to institutions of higher education to keep their costs low and to donors to encourage philanthropic support for universities. Unfortunately, these new proposals include a number of provisions which could diminish or eliminate these higher education tax benefits. Read more »

Provost Beeson to Return to Faculty

After eight years of exceptional service as provost and 17 years of distinguished service as an academic administrator, Patricia Beeson has informed me of her intention to step down from her current administrative role and return to faculty after the conclusion of this academic year. This decision prompts the beginning of a search for her successor, and I am delighted that Patty has agreed to continue her service as provost until that search is successfully completed. Funding for Pitt: Thank You for Your Support

Last night, the House of Representatives passed the non-preferred appropriation bill that funds Pitt by an overwhelming margin of 181-5. The bill now goes to Governor Tom Wolf for his approval, so this action essentially marks the end of the stalemate that was blocking passage of our funding bill for the current year.
