NEWS & VIEWS: FROM THE CHANCELLORPrevious Message | Home | Next Message United Way CampaignOctober 13, 2008 This week, we will launch the University’s 2008 United Way Campaign. The United Way offers each of us a way to give back to the community and to make a difference in the lives of others. The United Way is here for all of us offering programs to reduce youth violence, services to improve the quality of life for those with physical challenges, assistance to those who have lost their homes in fires or floods, or help for older adults who want to stay active and healthy so that they can continue to lead independent lives. This year, the United Way reminds us that that “we’re all in this together.” These words emphasize the importance of the United Way to our community. While we all are hopeful that we never will need to call upon the services of the United Way, we are fortunate that the United Way exists to assist those who do find themselves dealing with circumstances that are often beyond our comprehension. The United Way provides us with the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of those who need our help. This year, the University has set a goal of $630,000 – which can only be reached with the help of the entire University community. We also hope to increase our participation rate. Through our own experiences at Pitt, we understand the power that can come from the support of large numbers of donors, even when their individual donations may be small. Your gift, no matter the size, has the potential to help the communities – which we call home – become better places in which to live and work. I hope that you will join your University colleagues and friends in supporting the good work done by the United Way. On behalf of the University, the United Way, and your friends and neighbors, thank you for your kindness and generosity. |
