Professional Honors
Art Rooney Award, 2013

The Catholic Youth Association was the favorite charity of Arthur J. Rooney Sr., the patriarch of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. Rooney began a tradition in 1974 to stabilize the youth organization's finances. That tradition—the Art Rooney Award Dinner—continues to this day. At the 40th annual Art Rooney Award Dinner and Auction, held on April 18, 2013, the Catholic Youth Association honored a group of "Pittsburgh's Champions" for their many contributions to the Pittsburgh region. Among the champions was Chancellor Nordenberg, who received the celebrated Art Rooney Award. "Chancellor Nordenberg has taken the University [of Pittsburgh] to a new level," said Steelers President Art Rooney II. "He has always been willing to get involved in the community and take up the cause when needed. If you look at the list of people who have received the award, it's a group that had distinguished careers and a big impact on our community. There is no question Mark [Nordenberg] deserves to be among that group."
